In 1981 the first London Marathon takes place. Lady Diana Spencer marries Charles, Prince of Wales. NASA launches the first Space Shuttle mission, and “Raiders of the Lost Ark” makes its debut. In South Africa, the town of Laingsburg is flooded, and two of our well-loved sporting leaders are born – former national cricket captain Graeme Smith and former Springbok rugby captain Jean De Villiers.

1981 also sees the birth of family-owned company named Spraypave, which manufactures, supplies and applies bituminous binders, emulsions, primes and precoats to the southern African road construction industry.

Today AECI Spraypave is a wholly owned subsidiary of AECI Much Asphalt and part of the multi-national AECI group.
